T-Mobile UK Expands Android Portfolio with Pulse Mini

London, 16 February, 2010T-Mobile UK today unveiled the latest addition to its market-leading AndroidTM range: the T-Mobile Pulse Mini, which will be available on pay as you go, priced at £99.99. The device is the sixth Android smartphone for the network and follows the Samsung Galaxy Portal (i5700) and LG InTouchMax (GW620) announced last month.

The Pulse Mini is a slimmed-down version of the T-Mobile Pulse, which became the world’s first pay as you go Android handset when it launched last October. Manufactured by Huawei, the new version boasts a 2.8¯ touch screen, 3.2 Mega pixel camera with LED Flash and runs on the latest Android 2.1 software. Unlike its predecessor, it also features a 3.5mm headphone jack, with a memory expandable to 16GB for storing music, photos and movies.

The announcement is another Android milestone for T-Mobile which launched the first ever Android-powered smartphone, the T-Mobile G1, in October 2008. Since then, T-Mobile has continued to lead the mobile industry in making Android smartphones affordable to all, with the Samsung Galaxy Portal and LG InTouch Max available for just £20 a month.

Android has proved a big hit for T-Mobile, and with Gartner predicting that it will become the second most popular mobile operating system by 2012*, T-Mobile is ahead of the game.  Android Market is the world’s fastest growing applications store, with over 20,000 apps, games and services available for users to download directly to their phone “ 65% of which are free.  Market intelligence provider IDC predicts that 50,000 to 75,000 applications will be available on the Android Marketplace by the end of the year, giving users even more choice**.

Nicola Shenton, Head of Handset and Device Marketing, T-Mobile UK said: We want to make sure all our customers get the chance to experience Android, which is why we’re expanding our family of Android devices.  The Pulse Mini will no doubt prove a big hit with customers looking for cutting-edge smartphone features without the commitment of a monthly contract.¯
